LAST July 12, San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) commemorated its Golden Jubilee with the theme, “Animo 50: Roaring Through The Years.” The much-anticipated event was expected to be filled with live performances from Bedan Talents, Lola Amour, Sunkissed Lola, and Zack Tabudlo. However, what could have been a proper and remarkable conclusion to the celebration turned out to be the cause of uproar and negative feedback from the Bedan community.
During a soundcheck, heavy rainfall occurred at the SBCA Field which made the audience take cover in the gymnasium, cafeteria, and at the Our Lady of Montserrat (OLM) building. The severity of the situation made the event goers think if the event will proceed or not. While waiting for an advisory, a fireworks show was presented. Even so, at 8:39 p.m., an announcement was made to inform the audience that the performances will continue at the Integrated Basic Education (IBED) Activity Center.
At the same venue, Mr. John Castillo, one of the members of the Steering Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration, announced that the event will not push through instead as it is not safe anymore and the allotted time for the concert was only until 9 p.m. He also shared how Lola Amour wanted to perform but cannot due to various reasons. In a Twitter post, the band expressed, “We really wanted to play even just a few songs for you guys but strict daw talaga 9pm closing ng school.” Following Castillo’s announcement, appointed Student Execute Council (SEC) Officers, Fritzen Aldaba (II-BAP) and Jules Mykel Reyes (II-BSBA-MM) spoke to the student body and acknowledged the students' disappointments on what transpired.
